Victory is a novel by Joseph Conrad, first published in 1915, that takes place among the islands of Indonesia. Though subtitled "An Island Tale," the tropical setting is largely irrelevant, only serving to provide a remote island location for the action to take place, where danger is magnified by isolation.

It is based on the 1915 novel of the same name by Joseph Conrad. If Conrad does want us to look for victory here, he is saying it is something we can’t understand. The way into the novel lies behind a series of doors whose keys have already vanished. Conrad makes much of Schomberg's German ancestry. He regards him as a prime example of "the Teutonic temperament." Physically, Schomberg is a big pompous fellow who considers himself, at forty-five, a "man in the prime of life." 'Victory, don't forget, has come out of my innermost self.' Victory was the last of Conrad's novels to be set in the Malay Archipelago.
